New NSW childcare cook qualification requirements
Yes, there have been more changes to childcare!
This time it is to our childcare cooks qualification requirements

“If meals are prepared and provided to children on the premises of a children’s service, clause 54 of the Children’s Services Regulation 2004 (the Regulation) requires the service to employ a qualified cook.
In this context, a person is a qualified cook if they hold a certificate showing they have successfully completed Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) competencies, through a registered training organisation, in Menu planning, Nutrition and Safe food handling provided the menu planning competency or nutrition competency is from an AQF hospitality or health course.
‘Stand alone’ courses which meet these requirements
1. A Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) (AQF 3) complies with requirements of a children’s services cook provided the transcript includes a unit in menu planning
or
2. A Statement of Attainment in NSW TAFE 3599 – Cookery in Children’s Service (even though this course is no longer being offered by TAFE).”

We are a very lucky generation that we litterally have whatever we want at our finger tips within seconds…. If we have a question about any topic we can type it into our computers and even our phones and have the answer in less than a second.

A whole year has, scarily, gone by again and once more it’s time for our 5th Annual Child Care and Workforce Participation survey.Each year we ask parents to spend a few minutes taking our survey which looks at child care, support for parents in the workplace, workforce participation, trends and all sorts of other issues faced by working and non-working parents with children of pre-school age, including the ongoing quest for paid maternity leave, flexible working, social trends, child care gripes, child care benefits and rebate and much more…
The results of this survey are widely read by the media and policymakers alike.
It’s the parents’ time to have their say about child care…
Three lucky participants in this year’s survey will each receive a nanny for a day (valued at $200) and a pamper pack of goodies (valued at $135) including Ere Perez’s Natural Sunflower Oil Mascara and Natural Rosehip Oil Lipbar; an Antipodes Organic Skincare’s Heavenly Body Oil and Nougat London’s Luscious Lip Collection. Changes to Childcare
Wow! What a fantastic beginning to the year but what amazing changes are occuring also.
1. New Eary Learning Years framework - “Belonging, Being and Becoming” - this is a fantastic new framework we are now a part of, its main focus is on children’s sense of self, independance, self esteem and partnerships with our families. These are very important to the care of our children so its graet to see that everyone will be concentrating on these and plenty more points
2. DoC’s has had a name change: It is now called “Human Services Authority”
3. NCAC no longer exists - Accreditation still exists and now is a prt of the Human Services Authority. Just keep up the quality care and services that you are already providing and you wont even notice the change
4. Learning Stories are the way of the future, if you are not already implementing learning stories into your programs and observations now is a wonderful time to begin. Just remember to look at the Holistic view of your child.
